Official Images Of The MK8 Volkswagen Golf Leaked Ahead Of Today's Unveil
Although the official unveiling doesn't kick-off for a couple more hours, late last night photos of the new MK8 Volkswagen Golf made the rounds online after being posted by Motor Elpais.
Months of spy photos have led to this point—this is what the new MK8 VW Golf will look like. The styling changes aren't drastic; instead, they're more of an evolution of the MK7.

Starting out front, you can easily make out the fact this is a Golf. A few changes have been made, including completely redesigned headlights with daytime running lights. Compared to the MK7, some are commenting that the MK8 looks like it's squinting or that the front end is melting. Smack between those headlights is the new authoritative VW logo.
Continuing back, the hood also gets a bit of a redesign. Prominent lines run the length of the hood that now has more slope to meet those slim headlights. Running down the side of the car is a more aggressive body line that cuts through the door handles.
In the rear is where you see some more apparent changes from the MK7. The taillights are much more geometric, cutting from the rear quarter panels into the rear hatch. Another major change you'll find out back is the relocation of the Golf badge, now directly below the new VW logo.
The major changes happen when you open the door and head inside. There you will find a massive standalone infotainment system alike that of most new cars. Behind the new steering wheel you will find a sharp looking digital dash.
One of the major points of contention is the lack of physical buttons on the dashboard. Instead, VW went with touch-sensitive panels for functions like the lights and climate controls.
Specs-wise, you will have to wait and see what we get here in the United States. VW says there will be 1.0-liter, 1.5-liter, 2.0-liter gas and diesel models available as well as the GTE plug-in hybrid.
The biggest change overall from the MK7 to the MK8 that can easily go overlooked is the added length of the wheelbase. The MK7's wheelbase spanned 103.8 inches while this new MK8 increases that by 8 inches to 111.8. This could drastically change the handling characteristics.
