2021 BMW M3 Spied At The Nürburgring Sporting A New, Massive Grill
Even though the new BMW G80 M3 is sporting some heavy camouflage while running test laps around the Nordschleife, it's easy to see that the design is going to be far removed from that of the outgoing F80 M3.
The G80 M3 was just spied out on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife during testing, caught on video by "Automotive Mike." WIth the 7th generation M3 comes numerous changes to the platform from generations past, some of which that might take away from what we've come to know the M3 to be.
According to BMW, the 2021 BMW G80 M3 will sport the new S58 3-liter inline-six engine offered in two different trims, "Standard" and "Competition." In the standard trim, the S58 will be pumping out 473HP, while in "Competition" that will be raised up to a mind-boggling 503HP. More likely than not, this power plant will be matched with their seven-speed dual-clutch, and BMW confirms that the manual transmission will live on in the G80, offered as an option.
Another new and controversial option for the M3 is the introduction of all-wheel drive. Although not forced upon us yet, this is just another step toward the almost inevitable extinction of RWD cars. We can't really tell from the video if this is the RWD or AWD variant, but let's just cross our fingers for the future of enthusiasts everywhere that everyone orders these in RWD.
By now, I'm sure you've seen the absolutely cavernous grills on the new X-series SUVs, and especially this BMW G82 M4 Concept unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
Well, based off of these spy shots, it looks like these grills are here to stay and have finally found their way to the M3. Even with half of them obscured by the guise of camo, your eye is drawn to them like the remnants of your coworker's lunch stuck in their teeth.
Yeah, you might be disgusted by what you see now. To make up for it at least a bit, give the video below a quick watch to take in the much-improved engine note of that S58 engine.
