Audi & Volkswagen MK6 (GTI, A3, Tiguan & More) Intake Manifold - Features, Symptoms, And Product Review
The 2nd generation CCTA and CBFA Audi and Volkswagen have plastic intake manifolds that are extremely common failure items due to the fact that those engines are direct injected. Knowing how prevalent the issue is, Volkswagen/Audi offers a cost-effective replacement.
There's no way around it—direct injected engines have will have carbon buildup and the CCTA/CBFA engines are no stranger to this; the combustion chamber and intake manifold both build up with carbon. While there are special tools to blast your intake valves clean, you can't do this to the plastic intake manifold.
Audi & Volkswagen MK6 Intake Manifold Failure Symptoms
Over time, carbon will build up on the flaps and runners inside the intake manifold. The symptoms of this buildup are:
- Poor Acceleration
- Rough Idle
- Random Cylinder Misfires
Typically, you will start to notice the symptoms of a failing intake manifold at around 60,000-100,000 miles. You might notice these symptoms even earlier if your car is modified or tuned to make more power.
