If you own a P2 chassis Volvo, then chances are that you’re no stranger to the poor design of the fuel door hinge. The fuel door hinges on these cars are made of a cheap plastic which most commonly breaks off at the point where the spring applies pressure to the hinge. This primarily causes issues to where the fuel door may not close properly and potentially flop around if the door lock doesn’t engage. In a less likely but worse case scenario, the securing claws which hold the hinge to the body of the car may wear out causing the fuel door to break free from the car altogether. If you’ve ever seen a Volvo driving around that was missing a fuel door, now you understand why.

These plastic hinges were used on the following models & year ranges:

They can be found available for sale on our site here.

Additionally, as these cars are aging, we recommend to check the hinge's condition at every re-fuel. If you notice it starting to show some wear, we recommend to replace it. Here’s how:

**NOTE:** Before installing, we recommend to remove the securing pins from the new hinge, flip them over, and reinsert halfway back into the new hinge. This will prevent the pins from dislodging and flying away when you go to tap them into the securing position.

Only tools needed are a punch and a hammer.
