This crankcase breather repair kit is designed for Mercedes-Benz models featuring the M272 V6 engine produced from 2006 through 2011. Our kit includes everything you need to overhaul your crankcase breather system.
For your car's PCV system to function properly, it must be able to divert oil vapor from the crankcase. To do so, the crankcase needs to have a source of clean air in which the crankcase breather valve provides. When your crankcase breather valve isn't functioning as it should, this allows a buildup of excess fumes, in turn causing your car to burn oil.
Mercedes-Benz W204 Crankcase Breather Failure Symptoms
Mentioned above, when your crankcase breather isn't supplying fresh air to your crankcase and allowing excess pressure to vent, your car will begin to burn oil. The oil is burned through the various caps on the PCV system, including at the back of the head and on the oil separator.
There aren't too many symptoms of a failing crankcase breather valve on your Mercedes-Benz W204; however, the few there are tend to be pretty simple. These symptoms are:
- Oil leaks
- To easily inspect for oil leaks, look for the screws on the back of the crankcase breather cover. If they are silver and shiny, that means there aren't leaks. If there are leaks, those screws will be oily and dirty.
- High idle
- Noticeable decrease in performance
Since your PCV system is made up of multiple components, we recommend replacing all of them while you're in there. Longer-than-recommended oil change intervals allow for build up of dirty oil residue inside the hoses and valves, which in turn, either limits their ability to operate optimally, or restricts airflow.
If you're to notice symptoms, they usually start arising around the 100,000 mile mark.
